Mostly I serve customers that are my clients for other services (such as programing). Over the years I've had a myriad of Reseller, VDS, and VPS accounts with other providers. Honestly I have nothing good to say about any of my prior hosting companies. I'm a very picky customer. I require top notch service and support. Though I'm also loyal (stayed with my last provider over 5 years). So after a recent problem with that provider I decided to move those domains to a dedicated server.
I spent weeks carefully reviewing companies. Then I competitively bid out my specs. SolaDrive was the third least expensive quote. It was very close with two others on price, but I liked several things about their claims and their thoroughness with my pre-sales inquiries. I liked that I was getting a fully managed server, but had the option of doing things myself. I carefully laid out my plans and they agreed to do them.
I still have a short list of tweaks that I'll be instituting but I must say that I'm very happy with the state and performance of my server. I'm thinking that I'm pretty much set with this (my first) dedicated server. I'm happy with SolaDrive's service and competitive prices.
Finally I'd like say that it really irks me that some vendors can offer low priced servers but all the add-ons are way over priced. SolaDrive does not overcharge for good hard drives of my choice, bandwidth if fairly priced, so are 1000Mbps ports. Bandwidth overage is downright about the only fair deal out there! I don't want to say too much about the price, I do think it is a bargain when you factor in the service. And lower than others that provide paltry support. But in a big sea of providers not always the least expensive (sometimes dirt cheap isn't a good idea--especially when you are no expert!).
Hope this helps others. I'll post again next year.
